Mattie Money...

I do believe this is the first "professional" Eddie Money photo I've received! This is Lord Matthew McCloskey. I feel like I have to refer to him like that because he looks so distinguished in this pose. Matt is a web guru, musician, papa to 2 adorable baby dumplings, and husband to a pretty little lady named Kayle. :) He may also be our business partner soon.

Who has two tickets to paradise?? This guy:

Hello Mary Lou...

YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS VIDEO.

When I first pressed play, I was like, "who are those hot porn star girls??". But I was sadly mistaken. Apparently those are Ricky Nelson's SONS. He must be so proud. I think they might have some problems if they ever go to prison...

Healthy Competition...

I just read this story.

Can someone tell me what ever happened to good old fashioned "competition"?! Why is it SO wrong that someone is more skilled at something than another? Maybe that losing team needs to work a little harder...and perhaps this kind of defeat will motivate them. I think that the winning team should be applauded, not chided for their huge victory!

It seems people have become so obsessed with conformity that we suck the creativity and ambition from our youth.

Carl & I were at an elementary school last month where we witnessed a teacher yell at these little 1st graders because a few of them "hopped" over a cord on the floor versus "stepping" over it. Was there any real danger in doing this? Hells no. The teacher just had an agenda that her brood needed to conform.

Then I was visiting my Little Sister last week at her middle school, and while I was waiting for her, I saw another teacher angrily say to a boy, "a pre-schooler could stand in a line better than you". Seriously?! Well done, teacher lady. Spoken like any good military leader.

I understand that kids can get unruly if there are NO rules, but the way they're being raised nowadays is only teaching them how to be lifeless, spiritless, and dumb. Talent and ambition should be encouraged, not deflated! Children need to know it's ok to stand out.

Carl did a ton of guitar competitions when he was a teenager, and on several occasions, he was asked to NOT enter, because they wanted to "give other people a chance". Dude! How about giving them something to work towards?! By allowing more skilled players into a competition, don't you think it would bolster the urge to practice and improve? This is a contest for the BEST musician, right?

Maybe they should hand out "honorable mention" and "participant" ribbons while they're at it, so everybody feels special. ;)

Love Songs you Love to Hate...

So, we're doing this extremely awesome Vday show next month. I hired two hilarious souls, Dave & Rachel Buckman of The Frank Mills to come in and host some audience-participation segments during the evening, like The Newlywed Game. :)

NOW I NEED YOUR HELP! We were trying to decide what type of songs we want to do, then Carl came up with the great idea to have a "Love Songs you Love to Hate" theme. Will you give me your suggestions?? What songs do you bash when you're around friends, yet pump the volume for when you're alone in your car?? Music you only enjoy because it's covered in cheese, but that cheese is sooo creamy and delicious that you don't worry about how you look while you take it all in.

Email me or leave a comment here, por favor! I'll post our set list once we narrow it down. Thx!!

Oh and let me know if you can make it to the show!! Yow!!

Bowlin' Bowlin' Bowlin'...

...though the streams are swollen, keep them doggies bowlin'...RAWHIDE!

I just discovered I have a natural gift for bowling. I scored a 91 the first game and a 75 the second. So if anyone's looking to recruit a new member for their pro team, please contact me! It might be my true calling.

And on a side note, I had the worst time hanging out with all of these good, wholesome people when they all kept talking about the "balls". I had to say "that's what she said" about 100 times in my head.

Though it was far too heavy for my muscular physique, I was determined to use a pink ball:

Look at the intensity!! Notice he doesn't have a blue ball. Just sayin'.

The woman on the right was described to me as "one of the coolest people ever", but I have forgotten her name. I'm awesome. Not. Here the lovely lady is with Ben, Scarlett, and baby Avery! I suggested to Ben that it would be great fun to use the baby, just once, as a bowling ball. But he was too uptight to comply. LAME.

Check out Ben's stance. You don't stand like that unless you really know what you're doing.

Jenny Dupler (on the left) planned this whole ordeal. She's a doll! Those are her two sisters in the middle and her hubby on the right. I'm not sure what this stance represents, but it makes me slightly uncomfortable:

This is Jacob looking super intense and ready to crush the pins by sheer will alone:

We just met this lovely little clan for the first time, but they are awesome! John, Kathy, and Mason were cool and sweet and fun. Both games, they ended up with scores double what I had. That won't stop me. I have drive.

There you have it, folks! A bowling extravaganza for the ages. Balls balls balls!!! There. I feel better now.

Our friend, Ethan Diehl, is doing a painting of little ol' me! And he's blogging about his progress here: ethandiehl.blogspot.com

Ethan has a really cool, unique style & process for his art and has had quite a bit of success in the art world over the last couple of years! I love people who are passionate about their craft!!

Only the first color is completed so far, and yes, I'm kinda dressed like a hooker. ;) We were on our way to perform at a big Christmas party last year when he took this photo:

Beth's Blissful Badass Birthday Blog...

Wow, another year just flew by! I love life so much that I hate to see it happen so quickly. But it keeps getting better.

I'd like to thank my mother for turning her vagina into a clown car to give birth to me 27 years ago. And also for calling me every year to sing a special Bday song. :)

We slept in this morning and then had a great lunch with Adrienne, Charlie, and beautiful baby Ava at Blue Dahlia Bistro! We love them!! They are some of the coolest people ever...plus all of Ava's baby gear is stylish in animal print or Tiffany blue. ;)

I decided this afternoon that I wanted to go to tea, so I found this awesome little tea house called The Steeping Room where we met up with my supafly Michelle & Nick! I'm quite sure they'll be engaged very soon. :) Oh romance!!

It took me about 10 minutes to pick a tea because they had about 100 to choose from, but the one we chose was delish! I would definitely go back and try out some other varieties.

I asked everybody to do "pinkies up!":

Thank you, baby, for a marvelous day. :) ....and many more...

Action Jeans...

Our buddy Ben Kiowski sent this over as a recommendation for his next Christmas gift:

For some, the left testicle is larger than the right one. For Chuck Norris, each testicle is larger than the other one.

In the beginning there was nothing...then Chuck Norris Roundhouse kicked that nothing in the face and said "Get a job". That is the story of the universe.

The last thing you hear before Chuck Norris gives you a roundhouse kick? No one knows because dead men tell no tales.

Chuck Norris invented a language that incorporates karate and roundhouse kicks. So next time Chuck Norris is kicking your ass, don’t be offended or hurt, he may be just trying to tell you he likes your hat.

Near, far, wherever you are...

I asked a few people last week what the gayest concert we could go to would be...one guy guessed Rod Stewart, another said Bryan Adams (which we actually DID go see last summer!), and somebody else said Rick Astley. But they were all wrong.

The winning guess would have been Celine Dion!

Oh man, I love her music! Don't hate! I actually won my first talent show when I was 13, singing The Power of Love.

Carl used to work with Ben...he & Lori now live in San Antonio and when Celine announced that she'd be touring there like a year & a half ago, they asked if we'd like to get tickets to go with them! I've never purchased tix for anything that far in advance, but we were excited to see her live.

Here are The Webers...Lori is pregnant with the spawn of satan...I mean their first child. ;) That was totally a joke. They just found out it's a boy and I'm excited to meet him!!

Celine's show was incredibly inspiring for both Carl & me!! I mean, for a musician and a singer, it doesn't get much more pro. We came away with a renewed sense of excitement for what a band can sound like if you have the right people!

I must say, one of my favorite parts of the whole evening was seeing this lady outside the venue. I asked Carl to pretend like I was taking his picture so that I could snap a shot of her in this awesome t-shirt. In case you don't get it, it's a play off of this commercial.

Misty water-colored memories...

Oh baby...

My darlin' friend, Lisa, is preggers with her 2nd baby! And she actually allowed me to attend one of her Doctor appointments last week. ;) I made sure to announce to the Doctor & Nurse that she's pregnant with "our love child".

Talk about a MILF, huh??

I was pretty excited to see this on the stirrups...it says "Vagifem...vaginal tablets".

Now this is Lisa & Jamie's first baby, Nicolas. He is seriously one of the best looking kids ever. And I'm pretty honest about cuteness...Carl & I even use a code ("UB") when we're out in public and see an ugly baby. Some people out there really just shouldn't spawn.

But I love my Mr. Baby! And can't wait to meet the next baby Schmidt. :)

The tale of gelatin & rennet...

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited. We found these organic, vegetarian gummy bears at the store the other day (in the bulk section). They are so good!! Much better than the regular ones. I mean it. I wouldn't lie.

You might wonder why some gummy bears aren't vegetarian. It's because they generally contain gelatin. And how badly would you like to know what gelatin is????

Gelatin is a gelling agent and is common in foods like yogurt, marshmallows, sour cream, frosted cereals, pill capsules, etc. Sometimes it's made from melted horse hooves, but more commonly now, it's extracted from the bones, connective tissues, organs, and intestines of animals.

Then manufacturers give it a painless name like "gelatin" and nobody thinks twice.

And while I'm on the topic, let's discuss "rennet". Rennet is a common ingredient in almost all cheeses. It can only come from the bellies of baby cows. They butcher calves for veal, then the rennet comes from the mucos membranes in the stomach chambers.

Nasty noodles. Now please go check the ingredients of the groceries in your fridge. :)

Love,
~Beth

Oh bloody hell...

After we watched that Seven Pounds movie, Carl was really inspired to give blood! So both of us made an appointment to go in to our local blood bank on Saturday...

The last time I donated, I found out that I have type O- blood, meaning I'm a universal donor, so my blood can be given to people with any blood type.

Realizing this made me want to give as much as possible, but shortly after donating last year, my weight dipped under their requirement. But when Carl decided he was going to donate on Saturday, I decided to go anyway and just hope they didn't weigh me. And they didn't!

However, after filling the first bag, my attendant lady said "oh no, you blew a vein". I asked her what that meant, and she said "you blew a vein". Right, I caught that the first time, Sherlock...I'm really just wondering if I should be concerned at this point. I looked down at my arm and it had majorly swollen up, so she called over her supervisor. They took out the needle and attached a glove filled with ice to my arm, so I looked like I'd grown an udder. They asked if they could try the other arm, and I thought why the heck not? I'd hate to give up now. So they managed to get the rest of my donation from ol' lefty.

Moooovies...

We've seen quite a few movies lately for some reason! It seems like we went like 2 years without seeing a film and then caught a bunch in the last couple of months. The cool part is that I usually leave the theater with a song idea or two. Although, I don't recall Tropic Thunder giving me the urge to write...

And since I'm sure you're DYING to know how I'd rate some of these flicks, I will oblige:

Seven Pounds
: A!
Milk: B+
Burn After Reading: A!
Tropic Thunder: C+
Religulous: A!
Forgetting Sarah Marshall: C+
Wall-E: B

Talk Oh...

Carl made homemade beans for the first time since we've been together and they were delish! He used to make "Carly Tacos" for me on a regular basis, but couldn't stomach them for awhile after a bad incident trying out "butter tortillas". We've been eating vegan lately and I honestly don't miss the cheese or sour cream one bit!

Tomato
Minced Red Onion
Nutritional Yeast
Tobasco Sauce

These foolish games...

We went to dinner the other night with a supafly couple, Geoff & Kristin. They're funny, easy-going, and smart...we might ask them to go steady. :)

During our meal, Kristin let it slip that Geoff used to have a thing for Jewel. He even had some of her sheet music. So we made him a little surprise:

I suddenly have 3 questions about Jewel:
1. What's wrong with her boobs?
2. What the hell is wrong with her boobs?
3. Holy crap, what's wrong with her boobs?

Wanderlust...

Carl & I subscribe to "Word of the Day" from Dictionary.com and the words they send to our inbox are typically either something common that we already know or something that we'd probably never use because we'd sound like morons trying to fit it naturally into a conversation.

But today's word was:

wanderlust \WON-der-luhst\, noun:
a strong desire to wander or travel

Oh my friends, Carl & I are filled with wanderlust! The plan right now is to build our business to where we can sell it within 3 years, then move somewhere completely new! There are a few places we'd consider in the USA still (Nashville, NYC, Boston, Denver, Hawaii, San Francisco, etc) and then we fully intend to live in Europe someday. Hopefully France or Italy. And now I'm wanderlusting...
