Every time I see this commercial, I really really really want to go rollerskating! We tried iceskating about a year ago...that didn't work out so well. But rollerskates have 4 wheels (just so you know), and I think that would help me feel like I'm not going to fall over and break some important body part.
Is rollerskating still cool? It seems like it should be, being "retro" and all, but I can't help but think of the many grandparents out there that still go square-dancing every Wednesday night (by "night" I mean 6:00pm). I don't doubt for a second that they think square-dancing is still an acceptable form of dance, just like generation-x-ers think "How cool would I look rolling around that hardwood floor, just like old-times? My friends would be sooo jealous.". Is it possible that roller skating is our square-dancing?
ARGUMENT: A company like Coke wouldn't make a commercial about roller skating if it weren't "bad-ass".
ANSWER: AT&T just released a campaign that features Meat Loaf (Mr. Loaf) and his son(?) singing about the new Go-Phone. Did you go out and purchase the most recent ML album and share it with your friends? Didn't think so.
I may be wrong about all of this, but if we start taking our cues from TV commercials, we'll start doing things like buying our spouses a Lexus for Christmas and eating at Jack In The Box.
I have personally wanted to go rollerskating for a long time. In fact the last time that I did was about 5 years ago for my nephews birthday! My daughter wants to have her 6th birthday at the rollerskating rink! I don't know who is more excited, me or her?! To be rollerskating is associated with innocence (although I do have some not so innocent memories from the rink) I will have to let you know how it feels to go skating again.. and yeah- I think that rollerskating for the next generation will be like square dancing for us! I forgot that ever existed! But, it sparked a memory of the 4th grade show we put on for our parents- square dancing! lol Oh, the good ole days~ They def don't teach square dancing in school anymore!
My name is Beth. Short for Elisabeth Juliana. I was loosely named after a song called "I'm Not Lisa (my name is Julie)" by Jessi Colter. My maiden name was Singer, I once lived on Speaker Road. Music is part of me.
I've been performing since I was five years old and started playing with bands when I was 15. I also started writing songs in my teens. Though I still use my pipes whenever I get the chance, songwriting has become my true passion! I love sitting in my bedroom, fingertips on black & white keys, pouring my heart into lyrics, putting my soul into a melody. I normally don't have enough patience to work at something for days, months, or years, but this little writing thing has really got me hooked!
With that said, I am gearing up for what I call "Destination Nashville 2010"!! I really feel like I need to be there, to be a part of the huge songwriting machine that can swallow you whole or bring you to life. I'm excited & terrified all at the same time, but mostly happy to be able to chase after a dream.
